How we write

How we write these guides

  1. 01

    We start from the rule

Each guide quotes the IRS or state source it is based on and links to it. You can read the original yourself.

  2. 02

We say when a rule does not apply

If a rule has exceptions, or does not apply to your situation, we say so first.

  3. 03

    A person checks every guide

Before we publish a guide, we check every fact against its sources, and a person reviews it.
